Economic and trade sanctions imposed by governments promote national and international security and policy goals. Julius Bär Group (the Group) implemented measures to ensure compliance with applicable sanctions requirements as well as to reduce or eliminate the exposure to sanctions as well as regulatory and reputational risks. The Group Sanctions Policy defines the responsibilities, global minimum standards, and measures regarding the Group’s compliance with applicable sanctions laws and regulations and key elements of relevant sanctions programmes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates effective leadership for the Global Sanctions Desk and wider Compliance Department to foster a strong risk culture and support sustainable growth ambitions of the Group’s franchise
Sets clear priorities, supports, and motivates a dynamic, diverse, and growing team
Builds up mutual trusts, unites the team and strengthens the team spirit while creating a conducive environment
Proactively engages, partners, and effectively communicates within the Group and with governing bodies to maintain and further build up the credibility of the Global Sanctions Desk
Fosters the mindset from “design” to “execution” of the Group Sanctions Policy and control framework and act as a client-focused senior advisor who goes beyond the status quo and treasures the human touch and interactions with people
Contributes team development and initiates the personal development plans for their skills, career, and training
Coaches the team members personally to improve their skills and performance with a focus on Sanctions Compliance
Supports team members in the core tasks of Sanctions Compliance such as advising and supporting Julius Bär and its employees in the implementation of the Global Sanctions Policy, including its governance, the applicability of sanctions laws and regulations as well as relevant programmes, restrictions on business activities, defining and handling of clients with sanctions nexus and materiality assessment, sanctions filter messages screening, coordination with local Compliance, reporting to senior management or governing bodies, coordinating sanctions taskforce, and issuing guidelines, alerts, and others through different channels (e.g. on own intranet)
8+ years of professional experience in the financial business, preferably in Compliance, Risk, Audit or other control functions
Proven track record as a leader (or deputy head) of a team or projects
Strong communication skills to deal with our employees and stakeholders on different management levels
Exhibit sound judgment and discretion
Attention to strategy as well as details and with strong follow up skills
Excellent written and spoken language skills in English is a must, knowledge of further languages is an advantage
Flair for IT and other information utility or database know-how is another advantage
